San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Building Department is initiating a new program this month designed to speed up the building permit process for those wanting to build a new home.
The county has placed some selected pre-approved plans on its website that are compliant with the 2022 Title 24 California Building Codes, which meet high standards for safety, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
The Calaveras Building Department reports, “By utilizing pre-approved plans, applicants can significantly reduce the time and effort required to obtain building permits. This aims to expedite the approval process, allowing for quicker project competition.”
It is also designed to reduce the cost of construction, stating, “The reduced need for custom plan checks and revisions translates to lower overall expenses, making it more affordable for residents to build their dream homes.”
There are different options for those wanting either a single-family home or an accessory dwelling unit (ADU), ranging in size from 407 square feet to 1,200 square feet.
